Behind the name illy there is a family that has been working together to realize one dream since 1933.
From the day Francesco Illy founded illycaffè in Trieste, three generations of Illy family members have guided the family firm, together with thousands of employees, collaborators, and professionals. All of them are just as passionate as you are, and, like you, they all believe in illy’s great dream: to offer the best coffee in the world.

We now run 5 laboratories where experts and scientists work every day to broaden our knowledge of coffee and continuously improve our products and processes. This is how we ensure that you have the most advanced equipment and service.
WHAT IS PRESSURIZATION?
All illy coffee is packaged using the pressurization method.
This means that air is extracted from the packaging and nitrogen is introduced at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. Thanks to this technique, coffee not only maintains its characteristics over time but actually improves through seasoning. The aromas are bound onto the coffee particles and when the can is opened, it releases a very intense aroma.
WHAT INNOVATION HAS ILLY CONTRIBUTED TO?
in 1935 Francesco Illy invented Illetta, one of the forerunners of the modern espresso machine.
We have packaged our coffee using the pressurization technique since 1934.
We were the first ones to market the E.S.E pods (Easy Serving Espresso) in 1974.
We have created Iperespresso illy, the exclusive illy system of extraction, protected by five patents.
